Time-resolved mid-IR interferometry

The goal of this project is to develop a tool for quantitative, time-resolved detection of transient optical phase changes in the bulk of semiconductors. This technique can probe either reversible refractive index changes or irreversible crystalline structure modifications, as a consequence of material irradiation with the pulsed or continuous wave mid-IR laser light. The tool incorporates a mid-IR Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a pump-probe detection capability. Within the Fraunhofer-Townes collaboration, joint research efforts are undertaken together with the RWTH Aachen University towards the establishment of an international research facility in the field of the laser-induced online process diagnostics.
